SUMBERG SLAMS LAVISH EU
CONSTITUTION PARTY
North West Euro MP David Sumberg has
today hit out at the European Parliaments for
holding a lavish two-day
party to mark the proposed European Constitution next week.
The event, held in Strasbourg on January
11, 12 cost a staggering 375,000
Euros and was held after the
Parliament voted to rubberstamp the
Constitution. In total £75,000 was
spent by the Parliament on inviting and accommodating journalists to the
event in order for it to have the
“maximum media exposure.
Mr Sumberg
said:
"It
is sickening that at a time when we are desperately trying to help
the countless thousands devastated by the Tsunami disaster in South East
Asia, aided by over £100million worth of donated cash from generous Brits,
this European Parliament will spend over £250,000 on a party for a
Constitution that is not even
ratified by member states.
"That £250,000 could
have paid for two
and a half million litres of water to be purified using standard water
purification tablets. Surely this is a more pressing use of money than
blowing it on expensive champagne and canapés
for self-important bureaucrats."
